Buildings are closed. School isn’t.
Hey! Welcome back 🙂 I’ve been adding resources to this page and will continue to add resources through the remainder of the month. If there is a specific skill you would like me to focus, please email at info@dearbeautifulbrowngirl.net
As Philadelphia rolls into our 3rd week of school being closed because Corona Virus Pandemic, I found it important to share some fun and meaningful activities for families. This is my 21st year as an educator but this year I am no longer in the classroom, I am the Dean of Students for grades K-8. Primarily, I’ve been out off the classroom all year with the exception of a few modeled lessons and classroom visits. To be honest, I really miss teaching reading! I’m a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Literacy with a PA Certificate as a Literacy Specialist. Prior to leaving the classroom- my primary area of focus was teaching literacy and language art. So, it only made sense to share some of the resources and activities that I created when working in my classroom with you and your Beautiful Brown Girl (and boy – these activities are not gender specific). These items, usually sold in my Teachers Pay Teachers store will be free on my blog as long as the school buildings are closed. Check them out, download them for your Beautiful Brown Girl and/or your students and be sure to use them now and during the summer. Most of my activities are just add paper activities and only require access to a black and white printer (if possible). Be sure to check back often – I plan on updating this page with resources often.
Resource #4: Blooming Book Reports – An Alternative to Traditional Book Reports.

This is a great alternative to your traditional book report. It requires some thinking while providing an opportunity to create a really cute craft.
Resource #3: This is a guide to understanding how to use the Word Study for teaching young learners how to read.
Resource #2: This activity is great for beginner readers who are practicing short vowel sounds. Designed for skills on a K-1st grade level.

Download this resource to practice sorting words using short vowel sounds. Just print and add paper.
