I had an idea several weeks back while scrolling through Instagram. I saw so many young and influential girls making big moves – socially and professionally. Initially, when thinking about how I wanted to celebrate Black History Month, I decided that I would try to feature as many influential brown girls as possible throughout the month of February. I put out a call for submissions and the response was overwhelming! There are so many #beautifulbrowngirls that deserve and need to be featured. What will seeing themselves being celebrated on a public platform do for their self-esteem? Their purpose? Sense of of self, pride, motivation and desire to excel? Instead of just featuring Influential Brown Girls during the month of February, I’ve decided to keep this as an ongoing feature on my blog and will feature, at minimum, 1-3 Influential Brown Girls a month. If you would like to be considered for a feature, complete this questionnaire and submit your image via email at: info@dearbeautifulbrowngirl.net. Be sure to put the name of the beautiful brown girl you are requesting to be featured as the subject line. -Dear Beautiful Brown Girl
Meet Asia, our first Influential Brown Girl
Asia is 16 years old and is currently in 10th grade. She started an organization called B.I.G (Building Incredible Generations). This organization promotes diversity, inclusivity and social entrepreneurship. Her mission is to “help teens to be BIG in every situation”.

Asia is proud to help teenagers in Tallahassee get through challenges and difficult times by encouraging them to listen to her podcast, I.am.Asia. You can find her podcast on Spotify and Apple. I had a chance listen to her podcast and was impressed with her braveness – she is authentic and her transparency is admirable!
When Asia grows up she wants to become a forensic scientist, and continue to carry on her organization. She describes herself as bold because it took a lot for her to get where she is. She states that she had to stand up to her own school and show everyone that she was worth something. Three people that inspire Asia are her mother, grandma and Oprah. Asia is determined to see a change in the world. In ten years she sees herself owning her own practice and organization dedicated to mentoring teens around the world.
Asia believes that everyone is beautiful in their own way and that beauty extends to more than just looks; that it has something to do with your soul and the way you carry yourself. Most importantly, she believes your character determines your beauty.
Asia is an Influential Brown Girl with BIG goals and aspirations. We are super proud and deeply inspired by her courage and dedication to making a difference. We look forward to hearing more from Asia in the future. Be sure to check out her podcast (I.Am.Asia).
