Meet Sanaa Jackson, an Influential Brown Girl who is an amazing role model and activist.
Sanaa Jackson has been chosen to serve as our keynote speaker at our very first Afternoon of Affirmation: Love Your Selfie Workshop-Luncheon on June 1st, 2019. This is an interactive workshop and luncheon for Beautiful Brown Girls ages 5 – 14 and their significant other (parent/caregiver, aunt, sister, mentor, coach, teacher, etc). We are located in the Philadelphia area. Tickets can be purchased here.
In addition to serving as a positive role model and working as an activist, Sanaa is also an aspiring actress and singer. At the age of 12 she has already created an impresive resume complete with high profile performances and musicals. We chose Sanaa as our keynote speaker because she has overcome some pretty challenging obstacles that lead her to creating a campaign geered toward spreading positive messages and reinforcing the power of being kind to others. This is truly what it means to be a beautiful person. Sanaa experienced bullying firsthand in a way that made her fearful to attend school. She was afraid to face her peers and in 6th grade was dealing with anxiety and depression because of the harmful actions of some of her classmates. What Sanaa had the toughest time with was trying to understand why people wanted to be mean to others. Especially because she is always kind and believes that you should always treat people with respect.
Having been deeply affected by this, she decided to create change by giving her peers a platform to speak about this universal experience. What began as a social media mission to create change by promoting messages about self love and kindness “Sanaa’s Way” sparked the idea of creating a campaign encouraging her peers to Be Kind in their own way.

Since September of 2017, Sanaa has made it her goal to shed light on how cool it is to be kind. Her mission is to bring awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of bullying through events, in-school assemblies, educational curriculums and documentary film. Everyone has a different way to demonstrate acts of kindness, but the foundation of being kind is universal. BE KIND, YOUR WAY is a campaign that shows students you don’t have to be corny to be nice. Sanaa has created this campaign in hopes to reach millions of students across the globe.
Sanaa’s message is simple, “TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Give a compliment, Smile, Be positive, BE KIND, YOUR WAY.”
Sanaa has a very strong and supportive mother and family that continues to lift her up and encourages her to reach for the stars! Every Beautiful Brown Girl should experience love and support in this way. On June 1st we want to continue to foster and spread the power of loving yourself and being kind to others. After hearing Sanaa share her story and experiences, Your Beautiful Brown Girl will walk away inspired, encouraged and empowered! Join us on June 1st and experience this powerful event firsthand!
Sanaa is an Influential Brown Girl doing amazing things. We are super proud and deeply inspired by her courage and dedication to making a difference. We look forward to hearing more from Azaria in the future. Be sure to check her out on instagram @sanaasway_ and @bekindyourway.
I had an idea several weeks back while scrolling through Instagram. I saw so many young and influential girls making big moves – socially and professionally. Initially, when thinking about how I wanted to celebrate Black History Month, I decided that I would try to feature as many influential brown girls as possible throughout the month of February. I put out a call for submissions and the response was overwhelming! There are so many #beautifulbrowngirls that deserve and need to be featured. What will seeing themselves being celebrated on a public platform do for their self-esteem? Their purpose? Sense of of self, pride, motivation and desire to excel? Instead of just featuring Influential Brown Girls during the month of February, I’ve decided to keep this as an ongoing feature on my blog and will feature, at minimum, 1-3 Influential Brown Girls a month. If you would like to be considered for a feature, complete this questionnaire and submit your image via email at: info@dearbeautifulbrowngirl.net. Be sure to put the name of the beautiful brown girl you are requesting to be featured as the subject line.
