Meet Victoria, an Influential Brown Girl and Teen Activist
Victoria is an independent, influential and fiery future leader and teen to watch. As a 16 year old senior in high school, Tori is already ahead of the game and graduating one year early. She not only juggles a heavy course load, she is also a community activist, athlete and social leader. Tori is in the Math Honors Society along with several other academic/honors programs, she is on the Senior Class Committee, serves as a tutor and mentor, and enjoys working with the organization Community Outreach for Delaware County Youth Education Alliance. Tori also plays basketball and softball. Tori aspires to obtain a Masters Degree in Architecture. Outside of activism, school work and being an athlete, Tori strives to find peace both spiritually and emotionally.
When Tori stops by to chat on Wednesday, she is going to tell us about a recent protest she organized for her community and surrounding area. She is also going to tell us about other events she’s planned like a voter’s registration drive and a community vigil.
When asked why she finds what she does meaningful and impactful, she responded, “I don’t do it for me. I do it to bring the community together and ensure a better future for my generation.” Tori has an interest in working on positive change within the public school system through school reform initiatives. She also continues to work on hosting future events with the goal of bringing the community together. She wants to help create safe spaces within the community and online for those who feel alone or unheard.
Even though Tori has a very mature personality and fearlessly takes on tough projects as a social activist, she still enjoys typical teenage things! It’s no surprise her old soul loves record players! She also enjoys plants, painting, dancing (ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop), theatre, candles and of course Netflix!
When Tori was asked to give young ladies reading this blog post, or listening to our live chat, who might feel discouraged or stuck advice – she expressed that she would encourage them to “find your passion and stick to it. If you’re truly passionate about it, don’t let anything get in your way. Find your inner peace, a thing you can turn back to and center yourself when times get rough. Don’t ever give up. Drink water and stay out of drama.”
